| In August, 1995, the “GEF-China
Nature Reserve Management Project”, funded by the
Global Environment Facility, formally started into
operation under the specific guidance and management
of the World Bank and China State Forestry Administration.
The total capital for the Project is: US$23.6 million,
of which GEF provided $17.9 million and Chinese
Government $5.7 million. The project is under operation
in 9national reserves in 5 provinces across China,
they are: Mt. Wuyi(including Jiangxi part),Xishuangbanna
in Yunnan, Lake Poyang in jJiangxi, Shennongjia
in Hubei, Foping, Mt.Taibai, Niubeiliang, Zhouzhi
and Changqing in Shanxi. Fully advanced international
philosophy and method in nature reserves are introduced
into this project, and through strengthening the
institutional building, training of staff, information
systems use and by conducting scientific research,
it founded a new management approach and method
for the construction of the nature reserves in China. |
Standard
and scientific management plans are developed, thereby
providing an example for guiding the standard and
effective management of the country’s nature reserves.

Field patrol and monitoring operation are extremely
strengthened. People there compiled a scientific,
standard and effective field patrol and monitoring
system.
